They did show at the end of Halo 3 that Master Chief survived. But they definitely have fucked something up, bringing back the Covenant. Actually, I don't even get why they're continuing Halo the series at all. It seems complete. I don't see any reason besides them wanting to make boatloads of money for them to continue with the Halo franchise. No surprise that they are, then.

I still like the Halo gameplay style. In games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, they seem to have the enemies just automatically respawn indefinitely. You have to advance and mow through them to get to the objective, and then you're just on to mowing through more enemies. And all the enemies are the exact same, just shoot them twice. With the Halo style, enemies don't respawn, so there's always a nice quiet time after a shoot-out to exchange weapons and such and then move on to the next area. The next awesome, sci-fi area instead of an ordinary real world area. Fighting endless Germans on top of the Reichstag didn't hold a candle to fighting one guy with a deadly, deadly hammer in a sci-fi control room for me. And I think the more controlled gameplay style of Halo makes for much funner co-op. Fighting with one friend against a ton of jetpack brutes and a wraith on Tsavo Highway on Legendary was much more fun for me than trying to mow down 20 camouflaged Japanese people in World at War.

Anyway, I don't see why they must have the Halo universe to make a game in that style.

I think Bungie/343 have developed 'Star Wars Syndrome', where their brand is so popular they can stick 'Halo' as a prefix and have everyone rush to buy it. To be brutally honest, as much as i like Halo, i feel that it's a dead series. It kinda ended for me when ODST was released.

Not the key to having fun with video games, true. It's the key to having long term fun with video games. I have a few friends who are just bored out of their minds with video games and it's because you can only do these things alone so long before you're bored out of your mind.

As of last week I started playing again and have been having quite a bit of fun. I think it all has to do with playing with FRIENDS. Back in the day gaming was fun because it was more of a social thing, you would actually make friends while playing against them or with them and then add them to your friends list. Now that party systems have zapped all of the real gamers out of public chat you don't get the same experiences. But thats why we are lucky to have a community hub like UX where we make friends here and can play with them online.

That is so true.

And as far as I can say about the OP is this. Gears 3 turned into utter shit. I'm not exaggerating, it seems like ever since the "Fenix Rising" DLC was released the multiplayer nose dived. I can't count how many times I've point blanked someone with the Gnasher shotgun, only to have dumbshit mcgee jump backwards with their dumbass fucking sawn-off. Opening up the distance with their SHORT RANGED weapon, and instantly kill me; just after they get shot again.

Course, I'd rather play Gears over BF3. Honestly, it's fuckn' broken. This game goes out of the way to force me to go prone/crouch/stand when ever I'm in combat. I'm not kidding, I'm not pushing the right stick, the game just does what ever the hell it wants. There's so many times I've been killed because I get dropped to the ground fighting in CQC, and then being forced to stand up afterwards. It's retarded, no other game does this, but I digress. Nobody else seems to have this issue. Oh and it freezes the most frequently too.

So yea that's my input. Games are severely rage inducing these days.

What you said happened to me yesterday for the first time, as far as i know. I was trying to shoot a sniper who was about 100m away and when i went prone to try and get a shot on him, i stood right back up and took a sniper round to the dome because of it. Da fuck.

Let's compile a list of innovative videogames that are still fun, and not rehash trash, for all those people out there becoming disillusioned.

Single Player
-Dark Souls
-Batman: Arkham Asylum/Arkham City
-The Witcher 2

Multiplayer
-Space Station 13

SS13 is still great, by the way. Some of us have been playing the fuck out of it on the /vg/ server and it has a much better community than the Goons.

Add Mount and Blade: Warband to the list, because it's the best thing ever. Both the multiplayer and singleplayer is fun as shit.

Indeed I had a ton of fun with both Batman Games. AA was my pick for GOTY when Uncharted 3 won and I had beaten both.

Haven't been doing a lot of buying lately, so I can't really add to the list from first hand experience. There are a lot of games I've wanted to pick up though.

On the XBLA, Rayman Origins and Bastion (recommended by meatshield.)

Oh, yes. I've heard great things about it and I was going to pick it up during the Steam summer sale.

I bought Bastion on steam and have yet to play it. And I can't recommend highly enough the Batman games. I actually hadn't heard anything about Rayman Origins, funny enough.

Single Player
-Bastion
-Batman: Arkham Series
-Rayman Origins
-The Witcher 2

Multiplayer
-Space Station 13

Single and Multi
-Dark Souls
-Mount and Blade: Warband

Mount and Blade has always been one of my favorite PC games. Especially with the new Napoleonic Wars DLC that was released a few months back. It also has quite a few good multiplayer mods out there as well. Mount and Gladius, Secession, Mount and Musket, etc.
