Plug Pulled World's Most Luxurious Car Brand

I didn't believe it myself, even after reading the articles, but the definition of luxury in an automobile is being canned.

Mercedes recently announced (November 2011) that it will be halting the ultra-luxury Maybach car brand, as its profitability has come into question (I guess it was so luxurious, that the price wasn't worth it).

Since it's revival and relaunch in 2002, Mercedes hoped the luxury car brand would sell over 1,000 units a year; but it never came close.

The only other two super luxury brands remaining, are the Volkswagen owned Bentley, and the BMW owned Rolls Royce.

Mercedes said by ending the legendary brand, it can and will focus on expanding it's S-class model line, in which is already far more successful.


For those who don't know what a Maybach is, here is a sample of one of their "medium" classed cars:



The last year they will be produced is 2013.

You will be missed.

I don't know anything about cars, but I've heard of cars called Bentley and Rolls Royce many, many times. I've never once heard of a Maybach.

Many haven't unfortunately. It is because they are super rare (only 50 - 250 are sold worldwide each year) and the company practically spends $0 on advertizing.

Pretty much only the car-savvy people know about them.

Who the hell sees profit anyway in making an extremely expensive car that will only sell ~1,000 units?

This could go to much better use, like manufacturing tanks.

1st, as i said before Erik, I told you this like 2 months ago.

And Sleepy Maybach holds an interesting record that isnt something you want to be proud of, they sell the exelero the most expensive production car for sale. The starting price is a measly 8 million dollars.

But Maybach doesnt promote their brand very well. I have only ever seen two Maybach promotions one (I only heard of this one, from mysister who asked whats maybach?) was The Sex and the City 2 where the girls had Maybachs to drive around, the second promotion was in Transformers 3, that weird writer dude was escorted aroundby his German Chauffeur in a Maybach
