Building a PC

Post  ABigSoggy Wafle on 10th December 2011, 4:56 pm

Here is what I am going for

Fast, able to play fairly demanding games on pretty high settings, and under $1000.

I used only Tiger Direct but, prices shouldn't differ too much and there is no S&H till Sunday night so that saves like $20-50.

Processor: AMD FX-6100 3.30GHz Six Core http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1577715&sku=A79-0005
Motherboard:BIOSTAR AMD 9-Series AM3+ (4 ram slots. max 16gb and 2 PCI and 2 PCIe) (link is the same as processor)
RAM: 2x 4gb Corsair (8gb) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=40739&sku=C13-5720
Video Card:Radeon HD 6870 PCIe http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1076246&sku=P450-6879
HDD: 1 TB 7200 RPM Seagate (pretty much like a black WD) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=61389&sku=TSD-1000AS5
Case:Mid Tower Coolmaster case. 120mm Blue LED fan
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6430030&sku=C283-3122
PSU:Some cheap 800W one
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=606575&sku=V261-0800

Price comes to $854.94 but, with $40 of mail in rebate not added in so it is $814.94. Shipping and handling, like I said before, is free so this is the final price (might flux some. Idk about tax.)

Not a bad deal. So post you opinion of my soon to be build, your own build, building experiences (do's and don'ts) or your dream build.

Do you have to pay someone to assemble it, or do you know how to do that yourself?

I can do it myself no problem. It is not that difficult, actually, it is a lot easier than you think. You just need to make sure you get a "static strap" when putting in the mother board. In other words, you just need to be grounded.

Your third and fourth sentences might as well be in Esperanto, as I have no idea what any of that means. I wouldn't risk building one myself, as I'm that bad with computer technology (Don't even know what grounded means). I can't afford to screw things up when I'm dealing with nearly 1000 dollars of parts. That's one of the reasons I just bought a pre-assembled computer. I guess not so much pre-assembled as assembled by them based on what I send them. Either way, It arrived at my house fully built.

I can't remember the specifics exactly, but I think it's something like:
6 Core thing
8 GB of RAM
1 TB Hard-drive
AMD Radeon Graphics card (there was some list of the best ones, and I just picked the highest Radeon one, as it was much cheaper than the other type ones. I think it was 9850 or 9870 or 8950 or some number something like that)
Some normal case thing
800 Watt power thing
Blu-Ray Reader/Writer thing
Windows 7

Can't remember anything else. In case my putting "Thing" on the end of everything doesn't give it away, I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to computers. All I know is that I wanted to get something that would have a pretty good life-span before becoming obsolete, and that I wanted to run Skyrim on it's highest settings with no lag.

I was satisfied with my purchase as soon as Skyrim's auto-detection software stuff set my graphics quality to Ultra-High on everything by default.

Yeah... no...

Also Wafle, I'm guilty of never using a static strap or anything ever, but feel free to use one if you really want to.

Don't remember the PSU, or SSDs, but I can imagine it's pretty top notch from what I can ascertain.

What do you have a server?! Why do you need 32GB of RAM? 12 is excessive.
