What internet browser do you use / prefer?
Re: What is your choice browser?
Meatshield718 wrote:eaustinn36 wrote:Memory usage... okay.
But the latest versions of each are actually pretty much equal in performance. Unless your computer is outdated, you will notice near zero difference in the performance between chrome and firefox.
lol Nah, you're pretty much wrong on that. You just don't notice it because your computer can handle it.
Honestly the only reason to stay on Firefox atm is if you prefer some of their ad-ons over chromes. That's pretty much it. >.>
Or if you really just see no point in switching to a browser that's .1% better than Firefox. You forgot that one...
After all, it's just a browser, not anything really that special.

@Meatshield - Wut. You just disagreed with me, then backed up what i said (agreeing with me) in the follow up response. I said that assuming your computer isn't outdated (and can therefore handle it), you won't have any noticable difference. And for the record I have been looking into both browsers recently, a lot, and as stated in the most recent up-to-date comparisons, the performance is noticably the exact same (you aren't going to notice a 0.005 second faster loading time). This isn't my "opinion" on the matter, it is the latest professional analysis conclusion. On a different note: the latest IE has also improved a ton, not like the stereotypical IE we all used to know.
@Desert - Agreed in full. Also, to add on, Chrome isn't compatible with a few websites I regularly use, or used to regularly use; or it is just that the site does not support Chrome. (for example: when in college, the "blackboard" system was utilized over the years, but blackboard did not (and as far as I know still doesn't) support Chrome; you had to open IE or firefox to log in.
Also, it depends on what source you check:

The above two are a little outdated though... so how about an article from this November?

Well then... it look like I was wrong meatshield... in the memory sense though. Chrome actually now eats more than the latest of Firefox.

@ Jag I'm not saying that they are even at all. In fact, I said the only reason not to switch would be if you preferred some of firefox's programs. Chrome is simpler , more efficient, and runs HTML 5 and Flash better. Once you add a bunch of add on's to firefox it starts to have huge memory leak issues while chrome stays flawless.
@ Eaustinn The response above could probably work with your argument too. I don't care if you can't see the difference, it's obvious that there is one.

Never really noticed it because I use one addon, which is the YouTube replay button.
They'll probably fix those things anyway with new updates for firefox, or maybe not, I don't know.

Re: What is your choice browser?
Allow me to quote the latest analysis on both systems from professionals (since not everyone will open the link):
"The reality behind the speed of Chrome is that it stores truck loads of Cache in your PC, unlike Firefox where you can manage cache levels. So that when you browse in chrome it will just update the cache and site actually loads from your hard-disk, which makes you feel its fast. By the way, did I mention that Chrome has been under really heavy criticism for tracing back your activity on the web to Google servers so that they can sell ads better? Firefox may be tad slower than Chrome, but it doesn’t eat your RAM for breakfast and doesn’t track every tiny web activity of yours.
So, if you want to surf a wee-bit more, and not want to throttle up your CPU even for the silliest site loaded, and have a reasonably decent net connection, Firefox 8, which shipped with the latest bunch of improvements is the way to go!"

I've been using Chrome since it's inception, and I have no complaints.

Jesus, Chrome tracks what sites you visited?! Glad I don't use it. Not that I'm ashamed of certain sites I may occasionally visit or anything like that....
(It should be noted that when I briefly switched to Chrome, when I was setting my preferences, i.e. homepage and all that jazz, I noticed that you can't clear your history in Chrome, or set it to not track your history, or limit the amount of space allocated for stuff it stores, something that both Firefox and Internet Explorer can do)

Can you explain how Chrome is simpler or more efficient? I've used Chrome and Firefox, and neither of them are remotely complicated, so neither can possibly be simplified in my eyes. And neither is faster than the other (.005 seconds faster counts as nothing to me), so I don't see how Chrome could be considered more efficient. I really don't see anything wrong with Firefox, and couldn't reasonably demand anything of it. Pages open nearly instantaneously, and I have no trouble having about 12 tabs open right now (reading the Elder Scrolls Wiki, anything that even remotely piques my interest MUST be read in full). YouTube videos rarely ever need to buffer.
The only thing I would request of Chrome is smooth scrolling, the the refresh button to be relocated to the right of the address bar, and more control over settings. Other than that, both seem completely fine, making switching pointless.

Click the wrench in the top right corner of the browser, scroll down to tools, click clear browsing data.
History cleared.

Firefox.
Although most addons are making their way to Chrome, I still like Firefox more.
Maybe SRWare Iron once it's developed more.

I already knew about that, but I had tested it out before and it didn't work. I found out why just now, because for some reason it highlights purple any sites you visit or any sites on your favorites. When I tested it after taking YouTube of my favorites, it stopped being purple.
Still, I'll need a reason to switch to Chrome. Firefox still beats it in scrolling. And I'm used to Firefox's refresh button and back buttons, so if I go to Chrome, I'll still need an incentive to do so.

Don't forget scrolling. That might sound like a joke, but I'm serious. I scroll frequently, and though not often for long, it does add up, and that's why I can't stand Chrome. Every time I have to scroll, I have to deal with that annoying jerky scrolling. I'd have no problem with it if they would just add smooth scrolling.
Just noticed that shit on Chrome. It's fucking annoying.
