Extreme Record Heat Wave across USA
Well, as i'm sure you all know (US ppl at least) nearly the whole nation is in an intense heat wave.
I live right on the Canadian border, and for 1 week, it has been over 90 deg. Today, it hit 98 deg outside, a record all-time high for my region (hottest temp on record).
And it's not even August yet...
To me imo this points to 1 thing; Global warming.
Thoughts? Reflections?
EDIT: TRIPLE-DIGIT temps along east coast. It hit 111 deg in Washington DC today.

NYC hit a heat index of 115 today!!!!!!!

In my opinion Global warming is a bunch of shit. It's 70 degrees right now in San Diego. Constantly, it doesn't even change except for night.
Even in Idaho (which is a desert the area I live) it's 70-75 degrees. I have a better explanation, it's called Summer.
When it starts being 70 in winter across the nation, then I'll say global warming, but this doesn't happen often. The last time it happened was in the 50s.
It's like saying there's global cooling in the winter of '44 in Europe when they had the coldest winter in 50-60 years.

Im not making this into a global warming debate thread... so ill leave it at this.
The VAST MAJORITY of scientists (80-90%) believe global warming is real, and human caused as we see it today. So disbelieve all you want; your in the slim minority.

Yeah...gradually. Which is realistic...
I don't think scientists would back up your assessment of global warming is suddenly taking effect by going into triple digits across the country. It doesn't work like that at all. Also, it isn't exactly 131 degrees in certain areas. Every time I'm looking at the news for weather, they're always partnering it up with humidity which makes it feel hotter. Therefore, it's not the actual temperature, it's a heat index.
Nevertheless, it's still extremely hot, in triple digits. But it's not actually 115-130 degrees across the entire US.
I suppose we're also going into an ice age since last winter in certain areas of Virginia schools were closed for a month because of snow and it snowed in April I think in Georgia?
Nothing to worry about. Just go about your days and don't go outside. In the meantime, I'll go to the beach with a nice Pacific breeze.

Come over to Canada and literally chill, and we can club seals together and tell stories in the igloo.
Out of all seriousness though, the weather usually stays between 59F and 68F in northern British Columbia (These past 2 weeks at least).
Must suck for you guys.
I think I would just melt over there...

@Jag - I'll give you credit in a lot of topics. In regard to economy, healthcare, etc... while we may disagree, I can see your point and respect it. However, when it comes down to the environment, your just down right ignorant. First off, I never said this one event is signalling GW just "suddenly" kicked-in. It is a LONG-TERM trend, something most republicans cant get through their thick skulls.
Second, the Earths average temperature is rising. By average, I don't mean "oh look there was this 1 rly hot day therefore global warming'..., but an average of the temperature each of the 365 days... and guess what, it's rising, more sharply than any natural cycle could predict.
Record keeping has begun in the mid-late 1800's... and since then, do you know the top 10 HOTTEST years on record (averaging summer /winter/etc.. temps)? Well, 9 of them have happened after 2000. And what is the hottest year on record currently?Well, that would be 2010 my friend, and 2011 is looking to break the world record yet again. But wait, what about the coldest on record? Well, again, most of them have fallen before 1950, and evn in the 1800's. Coincidence? I think not.
Guess this became a climate change thread...

Re: Extreme Record Heat Wave across USA
Interesting. I'm a logical person I believe, I won't turn down something that is genuine fact.
I'll have to say you definitely got me in this one.
1905 and 1912 were the coldest years of the 20th century.
2008 being the coldest of the 21st.
2010 is currently tying with 2005 for the hottest year on record.
There are records of 1934 being the hottest year on record, which I believe, but I also think that it's simply an anomaly.
Congrats Erik, you've caused me to switch my views, slightly. Although we still seem to have intense winters good enough for news to report, so for my final answer.
