hl2.exe has stopped working

I just downloaded Orange Box off of steam. Now whenever i go to run a source game i get "hl2.exe has stopped wokring"

I tried google search. It seems to be a common problem but i have to idea what im doing trying to fix it, even with a step by step guide... please help me guys.

Probably won't help but try finding out if you can run the game as administrator if you are on windows vista. You could try google searching some more or restart steam or possibly restart your computer. If it still does not work try reinstalling the game.

Also compatibility mode. Pretty basic stuff...
