Things that you're terrified of?

Well, I don't have any phobias or something specific that scares me. Last time I remember being genuinely scared was because of a random dream.

Anyways, I'm scared of Ocean Depths.

Praying mantises.

I know it sounds weird, but here me out. I'm like, 9 years old. We're visiting Oklahoma City on our weekend vacation, and we spend a day at the Omniplex. I think it's called the "Oklahoma Science Museum" now, but that's besides the point. Basically we're talking hands on science exhibits for kids. Fun stuff.

So the place has this giant IMAX theater area, only the building it's in is shaped like a sphere, so you're watching movies, leaning back in your chairs to see the screen, which is projected on the inside of a sphere. They called it the "Omnidome."

Film of the day was a short documentary called "Bugs!"

It was a Discovery Channel type special that applied humanizing situations to footage of different bugs. Husky jock beetles fight over their teeny boppy girlfriend. Ant colony workers talk like Brooklyn construction workers. Stuff like that. The two "protagonists" were a female butterfly we followed from caterpillar to chrysalis... And a male praying mantis named Jericho.

Imagine for a moment that you're 9 years old, and the first time you're seeing a praying mantis up close is on a screen the size of a football field, as it devours several small insects and generally acts like some terrifying hellspawn.



Even worse, the climax of the movie is the praying mantis DEVOURING THE BUTTERFLY CHARACTER WE HAVE BEEN LOVINGLY WATCHING FOR 45 MINUTES.

So yeah, that's basically the childhood fear we're talking here.

Eaglendia and crew caught one in a box at school once and I basically flipped the fuck out. Disgusting creatures. Just freaky looking. Someone people say how cool they are, how "pretty" some of them are. The ones that have pink, flowery camouflage and shit. Fuck that shit. Just makes them harder to spot when they swarm you as a horde and devour you whole.

Seriously, fuck everything about praying mantises, the way their arms bend, their pincers, their fucking giant eyes with the small-ass pupils. The female EATS THE MALE when they fuck. It's awful. Hate them. Can't stand the sight of them. Just doing that Google image search was physically painful.

Extremely terrified of what me and my bro called a "Scorpion-ant." Fucking fire red scorpion mixed with an ant. We caught 3 of them and burned all of them. Then we will drown the place we found it which was normally in an utility hole next to a house. Shit was scary when got one into a bottle and it was shoved in my face....

I'm also scared of coyote packs due to an incident when I was younger. One of those fuckers are fine and they usually run away, a hole pack of them is scary as fuck especially when they be howling.

Tophat you realise that the Jersey Devil is supposed to be in the Pinelands in New Jersey right? And that the Jersey Devil isn't real.
