So apparently Minecraft is coming to XBL... but in the form of a complete ripoff.

I've been longing for Minecraft to go to the Xbox Live Arcade since I found out about it, as it would pretty much make the perfect game to dick around in when you're in party chat, instead of just flipping through the dashboard (as I usually do). So I was stoked when I found out that it was finally happening, and then immediately after discouraged when I found out it was a ripoff game that has nothing to do with the actual creators of Minecraft. So kind of a win-loss for me, but hopefully it will encourage Notch to get the real thing on XBLA.

Thoughts?

One, dat water. I've heard it uses the same physics as Minecraft's, but damn it's pretty beautiful.

Two, MC isn't that good of a game and it would probably be less so on the XBLA with lack of mods/server applications, limited multiplayer options, and all update support having to go through M$.

Three, sure, this is a ripoff, but think about what you're saying. Minecraft isn't even a completely original project to begin with--Notch made it using the src from a game called Infiniminer. The only reason we can say Minecraft itself has "creators" as opposed to a creator is because of Notch's stupid and constantly fluctuating opinions on mod support in Minecraft; he's continuing his usual habit of deleting all code that he doesn't finish in a single sitting, but now he's simply completing the game with content made by other users. (see: new saving/map "seed" generation system)

Anyway, this probably won't be much better, and it's just a dollar, so whatever.

Yeah I heard that Minecraft was based off another game. Still, I just wanted a game where I could fuck around and build stuff without having to exchange discs, so problem solved I suppose.

Still wish the actual Minecraft would come to xbl though, I have a feeling FortressCraft won't be as polished. And I don't really care that updates would be less frequent or nonexistent, I just despise PC games, mainly because my comp sucks shit, but also because setting up servers is a hassle, and they always lag for me. Plus I'd prefer to use the xbox controller.

*And yes, this game will have multiplayer, and it'll use xbox avatars. Oh, and it will cost about 3 bucks.

I refuse to call this FortressCraft, instead I'll call it Mindcart.

Anyway, you can fucking bet I'm gonna get it. It's going to be released in chapters and Chapter One is 80 MS, which is a dollar. And yes, it will have multiplayer. I've heard that it can support up to 32 players at one time, which if it's true will be fucking awesome. Don't quote me on that though.

And the water looks good, but who the fuck made those tree skins? And since it's not restricted by Java and running on a powerful engine, then why the fuck can't they make it look at least a little better? Basically it looks like an ugly skin pack for Minecraft...

I fully agree with everything that SlackerHero said, the multi-player is going to be magnificent!

Too be honest, I don't like the way it looks in that video. I like the classic 8-bit version of it.

In the video, it looks a lot like any of the HD texture packs for Minecraft, except with reflective water. The actions, "models" (sprites), and effects look like Infiniminer.
