Gliese 581g: Possible Life

Post  G00EY LOUIE on 30th September 2010, 11:48 pm

If you guys didn't seen on the news or Attack of the Show, NASA has discovered a planet that is nearly likely to sustain sophistcated life. I think that this is possible because who is to say that in a never ending universe, we are the only life-forms. This also reminds me of Avatar. I know, so soon? Anyways, Even though this thread is non-zedlike, I really want to get a discussion going on this topic. If you guys don't believe me, well then go to the link that I will put below.

Please post your thoughts on this and try to be serious. Most people don't want to see another "GREENMAN" war going on.

Anyway from what I read in the article i that one side of the planet is always in the day time.
Possibly on the dark side are savages who are in great numbers and use brute force. On the light side, intelligent life forms that have great techonological advance but smaller numbers.
HOREY SHIT! IT FUCKING STARCRAFT WITH OUT THE TERRIANS!

On a more serious note; we need money to send a shuttle there.

I hope that it has Human-like organisms. I wouldn't mind having a Navi girlfriend.

Saw this on the news

Its actually highly unlikely, with the planetary conditions (negative 25 degrees at lowest, 160 at highest) that the beings (If there are any.) are more intelligent than us. They are most likely nomads, constantly moving to keep with the constant sunrise, which has been reported as T-shirt weather.

Maybe not nomads. We are not saying that they are exactly human. The universe is full of many misteries due to the fact that it is infinite. What I'm trying to say is that it is highly likely, or possible, that if there was a life form, their bodies have evolved to the conditions. I will again refer to Avatar. I know that Avatar is a movie which makes no sense in the real world but if you have seen it, the native's bodies have adapted to their surroundings. If their planet did exceed our normal temperatures, that doesn't mean that they are not used to that and their coldness. Also, if their technology was far more advanced, they would make cooling or heating systems. I know that me and whoever else are already considering things that are unlikely but this is what they would do. Again this is just in theory.

Ummm... They're saying it's possible to sustain lifeforms IF WE PUT THEM THERE FIRST. They're not saying it has its own lifeforms. It doesn't even have water.

As a matter of fact it does have water. At least that is what my sources say. I could be wrong though. Can Gleise sustain earth life? Probably not. Is there a possibility that it may hold its own? We are not entirely not sure due to the fact that it would take 200 years to send a picture from there to hear. I admit that me and maybe all of you guys think that we know everything about this planet that is trillion's of miles away while we don't even know entirely about our planet so may time reveal some secrets of the universe.

"my sources say they have giraffes and kangaroos on that planet!"
If you have a real source then share it instead of making a fool out of yourself.

Anyways, there is a theoretical chance that the planet has some sort of a gas atmosphere. Probably no Carbon Dioxide or Oxygen, but it would be possible to build a massive greenhouse and slowly release the gas from there to atmosphere. Sure it would take hundreds of years most likely, but it's a theory I heard from a teacher couple years ago. After that, all that is needed is to find a source of water and the plants could grow naturally for a couple more hundred years... Then it's ready to be inhabited.

Well it is a sure thing that our generation will probably not spread our population until a few hundred years but me and many others believe that if the human race does start "colonizing", we first must fix our bad habits before we start polluting another planet. I know that my sources may be wrong but everyone can agree with me. Maybe our governments may not listen and still go ahead colonizing due to impulse and excitement. Also, if humans do colonize on other planets, I see it as WW3 waiting to happen if it doesn't happen by then.

We should colonize the moon first and mine for helium-3 for clean fuel!
This would be a logical step to accomplish.

The problem with colonizing moon is that it doesn't have an atmosphere, so you'd be living in constant danger of leaks in the buildings. One leak, and everyone in the room is dead. Or even the whole facility, if they don't have tightly sealed doors and whatnot.
