Activision
Activision is the poison of the videogame industry. To most of you, this should not be news.
Activision is accused of running a police state
What kind of creativity can come from employees working in "hostile work environment(s)"? Videogame developers can not create videogames to their fullest potential working in stressed, frightened work environments. Activision literally subscribes to secret interrogations and "hostile" tactics.
But, wait, maybe their intentions are good?
Not. Activision is only interested in videogames that can be exploited on an annual basis, says Bobby Kotick. Look at Call of Duty. For the past few years: Call of Duty 4, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, all being one year at a time. This means that not as much effort will be put into games; games will be made with the idea of releasing it once a year with new updates. The time of taking years to make and polish videogames and then subsequently update the games when problem arise is over (MW2). Now, games will be rushed and unfinished more than ever before.
What about the prices?
Likely, we'll have to pay more for our (Activision) videogames that are rushed and unpolished. What point does it end? Modern Warfare 2 could have cost $80 and people would still throw money at it. Gamers will buy these games at higher prices. It's horrible. Some games already cost too much for the content (or lackthereof) they have.
At least the game makers are safe, right?
Not. At. All.
Activision is the worst thing to happen to videogames.
Honorable mention to EA

Agreed. I've been following the lawsuit with Infinity Ward and its just ridiculous. We have a thread here about it but its not updated.
Also the head of Activision has mentioned multiple times now that he wants to make Call of Duty a subscription based game. So basically you are paying to play online per month.

Re: Activision
It's not just Activision. All the game makers are afraid of making anything original because they're afraid it wont sell... And then when someone does something, no one buys it. You can't blame anyone else but the gamers.

Re: Activision

Before it was Activision, it was EA.
I remember when EA was the cancer killing video games.
Sad truth and this happens with all mediums, is that there are those who aren't in it for the entertainment value but rather to make a buck. The video game industry is a lucrative one and for a long time it was just for those who had a passion for it but the public has taken noticed. So that's why there are those who are in the business to just make money hence, Bobby Kotick, he's a business man and can give two shits about what game comes out.
Thing about it is that video games are coming to the verge of what happened to the film industry. Where as it's not people make pointless shit not because they have a passion for it but rather because it will sell. You can already see it happening now. Gamers adore the COD franchise and REGARDLESS whether or not Black Ops is good, they're getting it because of the brand name.

Re: Activision
Sadly, it IS the fault of the gamers. Any game company with no soul can do this.
Who is buying Black Ops because it looks good?
If the game wasn't tied to Call of Duty at all and was its own separate IP, would you buy it?
I would not. That said, I'm not buying it anyway.

I actually really liked Halo: Reach. The little I played of it was much better than Halo 3 and maybe even Halo 2.
But this is not the topic for that.
Bungie is working on a new IP. It will probably be exploited all to hell or never come to fruition under Activision.

Re: Activision
Wow, r u kidding me, there possibly going to charge people to play online? We've already spent about $70 on the game itself, and maybe a little more if anyone bought the map packs. I say, Activision: FUCK YOU

Re: Activision
Now this is just pathetic. Charging to play online when you pay for XBL?
If this is the case you are better off selling your xbox and buying a ps3
