Some things that would make Red Dead even better
Let me start by saying that Red Dead is an amazing game and has come a lot closer to being perfect than most other games. There's just a few things that I dreamt up while anticipating the game, that I'm sure could really be worth Rockstar's while to put in. These ideas are suggestions for either the next installment to the series, or DLC for RDR, and I do realize that some of them would be pretty hard to implement. But I've thought the following ideas through, and think that all of them are plausible, and that most would be well worth the effort. I've posted this on a Rockstar forum, but also put it here because I'd like to hear what you guys think (be prepared though, it is quite a bit). The ideas are rated out of ten based on how important I think they are, with 10 being a much needed addition, and 1 being just a bonus idea, but definitely not necessary. Here goes:
- Being able to rob trains and banks in multiplayer. Robbing these two things has always been iconic in Westerns, and would make an excellent addition to the multiplayer. It provides a whole other playing field for what posses can do. Just think about how awesome it would be to sit your gang down, go over/ come up with some plans on how to execute the robbery, and then pull it off. I'd also like to note that successful robberies would be a very hard feat to pull off (this would provide for a number of new challenges too). Importance Rating: 10
- Being able to swim/dive in water. The water in RDR looks gorgeous, and is such a tease. Being able to swim and dive in it would not only be cool as hell, but it could also make for some awesome story missions/ multiplayer challenges. Just think about how entertaining it'd be to go over that waterfall. Importance Rating: 5
- Mini-games in multiplayer. I noticed this has already been thought of, and has a nice plausible way of executing it- Mini Games in Free Roam. I think this is a great system, but would add that a variety of the games should be available at gang hide-outs that you can take over. That way when the gang leader is thinking about what to do next, or planning the next attack, the members can entertain themselves with some poker, etc, in the meantime. Importance Rating: 9
- Better focus on revolvers. Revolvers are another icon of westerns, and in Red Dead Reedemption, they could have received a bit more love seeing as neither of the two most powerful handguns are revolvers. It's be great if you could dual-weild them, something that's common in westerns. Also it'd be nice if there was a slightly bigger selection of them with different styles and colours. Your revolver should be your pride and joy in the game, and something that can be fairly unique to you. Importance Rating: 8
- Improved menu/navigation design. Now I don't consider this a flaw in RDR, but it would be nice if it were easier to bring your posse into competitive game modes, and if those game modes could recruit other players instead of just the ones in the Free Roam lobby (I'm finding it hard to get into a decent-sized competitive match). If one could press "start" and find a "competitive game modes" option, they could then bring their group right into a match full of people who are actually looking to play competitively. Importance Rating: 4
-New Free Roam game mode. Now this is a fairly large one, but hear me out, as it's my favorite suggestion. All this would be is an objective-based Free Roam. The objective is simple, collect 10 grand between your posse, and bring it back to the center of the map to turn it in and win. There are a number of ways in which you can collect the money, and all will be displayed on an objectives list that you could access by pressing something such as the 'back' button (for Xbox 360). So say you bring up the list of objectives. You'll now see that there's a train coming through town in ten minutes, and it's carrying $2000. You also see a number of other smaller objectives, such as a sheriff in a small town up North, who's willing to pay $500 if you kill some bandits for him. Now you can choose to go for the big money, but chances are you'll have some competition with another posse. Whereas you can go for the bandit job, and have a much better chance of getting the money, but it won't be as much.
There could also be bounty hunting, where you could go to the sheriff's office in any town and see who the top three most wanted players in the game are. The most wanted players will ones who have killed the most people without dying, aand thereby also likely to have the most money on them. Once you decide to track them, your map would show you their last known location (basically any place with npcs). So if you're on a big kill streak, be aware because there's likely to be some people looking for you. Taking out most wanted players would earn you a fine reward.
Once your gang has the money, the next step will be making it to the center town to turn it in alive. There could be a notification that would alert the other gangs that you have reached the required amount, and they will try to stop you.
If you die, you will lose all your money and respawn a fair distance awy from the action (to prevent gang wars from never ending). The loss of money acts as a punishment for dying, making players more wary when they enter battle, and less wreckless. Also when someone dies, whether it be your teammate or an enemy, they will drop half of the total amount of money they had, and you may go over to their body to retrieve it. This way if you survive a gang war, it won't be a complete loss as you can gather up your lost teammates' and the enemy's dropped money.
Importance Rating: 10 (not in the sense that it's necessary, just that I think it would be insanely awesome if included).
So yeah, those are my ideas. I know it's a lot of text, but I hope you got through it so you can tell me what you think. Thanks.

Re: Some things that would make Red Dead even better
I thought the first four would be in the game for sure... But since I haven't planned to get this game it doesn't really matter for me.

It would've been way cool if you could gain money by doing missions, jobs, etc, like in single player. Then spend it on necessities like medicine or food or water, and so forth Thats my opinion.

Well, the point of free roam is do what you want with no real objectives. You can set up things do with your posse but, free roam is suppose to be open for you do what ever you want. Your idea would be a cool mission do assign doing but, it shouldn't be the purpose of free roam. Other than that I agree with you. The game is fun with plenty to do but, those things get boring a little to fast.

You can hijack trains on free roam but you unlock the challenge later on in multiplayer

There is no train in multiplayer

Looks like you put a lot of thought into this. I agree with everything except the swimming one. Although it might make things more fun, it would be less realistic. Most people around this time didn't know how to swim; many drowned. It would also allow gangs to "corner" someone on a river, rather than thinking they'll swim across (just trying to think of something positive about it).
But yeah, the other ideas would help, but I could definately live with it if they didn't add anything else

It is probably close to impossible to swim in most of the water in this games. Seeing as the undertows would pull you right down to the bottom.
